Andy Warhol Famous Paintings and Art Prints
Andrew Warhola (AKA-Andy Warhol) was born August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At an early age, Warhol was diagnosed with a nervous system disease that caused him to involuntary move his body around. He spent a great deal of time in bed as a child and became very close to his Mother while she cared for him. Young Warhol not having many friends or going to School like most other kids, relied heavily on his imagination to keep him occupied. Andy loved to listen to the radio and was fascinated with Movie Stars which he would cut pictures out of magazines and place all around him. Warhol was also deeply into drawing and shown impressive artistic abilities even at such an early age. He would later go on to attend the School of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Institute of Technology where he first studied Commercial Art. After graduating, Andy Warhol moved to new York City in 1949 and started a career in Advertising and illustrations for a magazine publisher. Warhol was also hired by RCA Records to design Album Covers using his realistic art painting abilities.
Warhols First Pop Art Exhibition
Andy Warhol holds his first Fine Art Gallery Exhibition on July 9, 1962 in Los Angeles which makes it's debut of Pop Art to the West Coast and becomes an instant success. Later that same year, Warhol holds his first New York exhibit which puts Pop Art into the spotlight around the Country and makes Andy Warhol a household name. Warhol soon discovers mixing his art with already famous people and products makes his artwork instantly recognizable. Some of his early works of famous movie stars would include his Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor paintings. Warhol would also become famous for his paintings of Coca-Cola bottles and perhaps his most recognized painting would become the Campbell's Soup Can.

Dennis Hopper art collection up for auction |

Dennis Hopper who shot two bullet holes through an Andy Warhol portrait of Mao Zedong is going up for auction at Cristies in New York City. At the time Warhol pronounced the "Easy Rider" star a collaborator to the painting making it a unique piece of art with his blessing. The 1972 colored screenprint of Mao Zedong is expected to bring $20,000 to $30,000. Warhol's "Mao" is one of 300 works of fine art and memorabilia owned by the late actor/director Dennis Hopper up for sale. The famous shooting incident involving the "Mao" painting happened in the early 1970s at Hopper's L.A. home, said Alex Hitz, a close family friend and one of the trustee's of the estate. "One night in the shadows, Dennis, out of the corner of his eyes, saw the Mao painting and he was so spooked by it that he got up and shot at it, twice, putting two bullet holes in it," Hitz told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. "Andy saw it, loved it and annotated those holes" labeling them "warning shot" and "bullet hole." Given the unique facts (and holes) in this Warhol painting the price could fetch considerably higher. |

Andy Warhol's portrait of Mao Zedong that actor Dennis Hopper shot the two bullets through sold for $302,500, more then 10 times the estimate. Dennis Hopper later showed Warhol the bullet holes, and they agreed to consider the work a collaboration. Warhol drew circles around the bullet holes, labelling the one over Mao's right shoulder "warning shot" and the one at his upper left eyelid "bullet hole." Another Warhol screenprint from 1967 of Marilyn Monroe also sold for $206,500.00 which is about four times the pre-sale estimate. Andy Warhol's painting's are clearly still rising in value. |
