Salvador Dali Paintings

Salvador Dali Famous Art Paintings

Salvador Dali was born May 11,1904 in Figueres, Spain. Both his Mother Ana Maria, and Father Salvador Dali i Cusi, encouraged Salvador's natural artistic abilities seen at a very early age. In 1916 at only 12 years old, Dali formally enters his first Art School and starts experimenting with Modern Painting Techniques. Within a year Salvador puts together an impressive collection of his modern paintings and his Father organizes his first exhibition. In 1919 Dali only 15 years of age, hosts his first public exhibition at the Municipal Theater in Downtown Figueres.

When Dali turned 18 years old he moved to Madrid and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts. This is the time period where he first starts to experiment with Cubism Paintings. Very little information was available on the Cubist style of painting in Madrid at the time but that was little deterrent to the young Dali. He was an instant success with his fellow piers. He would stay at the Art School for the entire 4 years but ended up getting expelled shortly before taking the final exam. Dali was heard saying that no one that worked there was competent enough to examine his work. Shortly after leaving the Art School, Salvador Dali went to Paris where he meets none other then Pablo Picasso himself. Dali would go on to paint several pieces of art work greatly influenced by Picasso over the next few years upon their meeting.

In 1931 Salvador Dali Paints one of His Most Famous Paintings the 'The Persistence of Memory' also known as the 'Melting Clock's Painting'. This painting boosts Dali's reputation 10 fold and demand his art paintings continues to grow. In 1934 the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased 'The Persistence of Memory' where it continues to be on display. With the help of a very wealthy Man, Edward James, who was also one of Dali's main collectors, he emerged in the Art World as a major contender. Salvador would go on to paint another famous painting the 'Swans Reflecting Elephants' where he uses Edward James within the painting. Dali would go on to create over 1500 paintings in his lifetime until his last known painting, 'The Swallows Tail' was completed in 1983.
